The company formed and incorporated in the year 1980 under The Companies’ Act 1956 through the nationalization of six jute mills. Out of these, 5(five) jute mills namely, Kinnison, Khardah, National, Alexandra, Union, are in the state of West Bengal and 1(one) Jute Mill namely RBHM in the state of Bihar under the administrative control of Ministry of Textiles.

It was set up primarily with a view to undertake and nationalize the Jute Industry and to supplement the efforts of private jute Mills developing across the country.

NJMC was engaged primarily in manufacturing of Jute bags, sackings (B-Twill Bags) which were supplied to different State food procuring agencies against the Production Control Order.

NJMC believes that Good Corporate Governance is essential to achieve long term corporate goals. NJMC’s philosophy on Corporate Governance is aimed at the high level of transparency, accountability and compliance of law in all facets of operations, leading to a best standard of Corporate Governance.

The Company complies with the requirement of Corporate Governance as per Guidelines of Corporate Governance for Central Public Sector enterprises.

It was incorporated under the Companies Act, 1956 with an objective to takeover six jute mills, the management of which was earlier taken over by the Government of India under the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act.

However, due to the accumulated losses of several years, the Organization became sick and came under BIFR status. Thereafter, the Union Cabinet, in their meeting held on 10 October 2018, gave their assent for the closure of National Jute Manufactures Corporation Ltd. (NJMC) along with its subsidiary Birds Jute and Exports Ltd. (BJEL). As per the directives, presently it is in the process of closure,

Thank you and Jai Hind!
